Hopefully my parents are just the beginning, even they were surprised by how much they had misjudged the show. Dean sold it completely for my Dad, 5 mins of Dean and Dad started the ‘I like that guy, his car is badass’ stuff. Don’t get me wrong they love Sam too.

We started from the beginning S1 Ep1. I had been trying for years to get them to watch it to no avail. Luckily, I told them we could start with the first episode because it was simple and the show was light (well kinda, maybe for like the first half hour). After the first ep we watched three more that same day. Event he religious references in S4 have had the opposite effect on my Mum than I thought it would. She geeks out whenever they come up.

I don’t think the show should be started anywhere but at the beginning. They need to see everything Dean and Sam go through to get them to where they are now.

Side note: my parents love Bobby (god help them when THAT rolls around…) and I couldn’t have asked for bigger Castiel fangirls (Dad included). If the show doesn’t end with Castiel and Dean together, I don’t know what will happen to my Mum, there will be tears. Dad meanwhile, doesn’t think Dean nor Cas are gay but thinks the Destiel thing is ‘cute’.

Good luck with your parents, as soon as you get them over the hump and just WATCH it, they’ll be hooked. Everyone I’ve ‘made’ watch the show has become hooked - from 9 year olds to 72 year olds :)

For my birthday in August last year my parents agreed to watch 1 episode of Supernatural with me and my sister. 1 Episode only and it was a hard sell. I was excited because my Mum is super Christian and predetermined the show was anti-Christianity and that she would hate it.

Fast forward to now and Supernatural-Sundays are a cemented RITUAL in our house. We are now midway through Season 5 and my parents LOVE it. If we have to skip it for any reason, it’s cranky pants all round.

Mum ships Destiel so hard and never a Dean/Cas moment can slip past without a comment of ‘Aww Dean loves/misses his boyfriend’. This from a 72 year old woman that used to think being gay was ‘a choice’ and ‘was against the word of god’. She also describes them as a ‘real love story - not like the crap on tv’. Whether Dean and Cas are gay or not - this makes me very happy.

I have now told my Mum that my sis and I are going to meet Misha Collins and she was so upset I didn’t invite her and Dad. As much as I love my Mum and Dad, I just couldn’t do that to Misha - they are both nuts.

I consider this a victory on behalf of all that is Supernatural.

Ummmm random facts;

1. I’m semi-named after Abba. My mother insisted all her eight children have biblical names and I think I definitely got the best of the bunch - Abigail. This is because my Dad (not religious like my Mum at the time) liked it the best of the names in the bible because it reminded him of Abba. Mum let him choose my middle name, Skye.

2. I once accidently grabbed Justin Hawkins balls. It was at the Sydney Darkness show years ago and he was crowd surfing and I put my hand up without looking and closed my hand around his family jewels. He winked, thanked me and went on his merry way.

3. Everyday on the train, I try to calculate the numbers on the carriage I am on so they equal 8. Carriages have 4 numbers and each number can only be used once and can be divided, multiplied, added or subtracted. It’s harder than it seems.

4. Before moving in with my former flatmate, we devised a list of apartment rules, including ‘do not bother each other in the morning’, ‘never discuss toiletry habits’, ‘dinner and Supernatural night cannot be skipped’ and ‘no dating girly boys that talk about feelings all the time’.

5. I hate pointless chit chatting on phones, mainly when it’s with friends that you see anyway. Sure, let’s talk over dinner or coffee, shopping, anything, but just calling me up to chat when we saw each other a couple of hours ago? No thanks!
